Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers provides a means for citizens of Southern Ohio
to provide information to law enforcement while remaining anonymous. As a vital
three-way link between law enforcement, the media, and the general public,
Crime Stoppers provides opportunities to solve homicides, rapes, burglaries
and other serious crimes.
Each week, details of an unsolved crime are to
be featured as a “Crime
of the Week” on Cable Channel 2, the Clear Channel Chillicothe Radio
stations, and in the Chillicothe Gazette.
The Crime Stoppers’ tipster line, 773-TIPS,
is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. We do not use Caller ID or record any telephone
conversations. Tips, which result in the arrest and/or the indictment
of person(s) responsible for crimes aired as Crime of the Week, are eligible
for a reward of up to $2,000.
Funding for Crime Stoppers tip reward payments comes
from private donations made by concerned citizens and businesses in Southern
Ohio. If you wish to become a member, please complete the Membership
Application.
The Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers program is based on the premise and success
of the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, Inc. program. These are some of the successes
they have encountered.
In Columbus and Franklin County, more fugitives from justice have been found
and returned to jail through Crime Stoppers than any other non-profit agency.
Some of the recent crimes solved through tips to the Crime Stoppers program
are:

arson and aggravated robbery out of the arson death of Orville Bailey in
his Clintonville home on 222 Fairlawn Ave.
- The arrest of serial bank robber suspect Michael R. Purnell was later charged
with 18 counts of robbery of numerous banks in the central Ohio area.
- The arrest of Toby Wilcox, charged with 2 counts of aggravated murder and
